RENT-A-CENTER: BUILDING A BETTER WEB SITE
SITUATION
For national retailers, a Web site is like an always-open extension of their brick-and-mortar stores. And like a real-world location, a site's look, flow and focus can influence sales – negatively or positively. Rent-A-Center's Web site was in need of a major redesign. Orders were steady, but visits were down – and it was only a matter of time before sales would start to decline.
FOUNDATION
RAZOR knew exactly where to start: with targeted, analytical research from current online users. Our usability studies showed that consumers found the site difficult to navigate, uninspiring and lacking in information about Rent-A-Center products and services – all negative qualities that would impact overall transactions.
BLUEPRINT
It's a lot easier to find the right solutions when you know exactly what the problems are. Armed with our usability studies, RAZOR created a new online home for Rent-A-Center. It provided consumers with:
  • A broader range of Rent-A-Center products
  • More specs and descriptions so visitors could shop smarter
  • Revamped, user-friendly site navigation
On the back end, RAZOR automated the updating process, allowing Rent-A-Center to handle product changes and updates internally, reducing additional agency fees. RAZOR also implemented a structured Internet marketing plan, including implementing a structured search marketing strategy to profitably drive consumers to the Rent-A-Center site.
RESULTS
RAZOR created an enhanced, online experience for Rent-A-Center. The results were immediate and continue to improve:
  • Online sales leads almost doubled
  • Total Web revenue per customer has increased more than 50% to become a significant source of revenue for RAC
  • Overall Web traffic has increased by more than 133%
