NSI Supports Earthquake Survivors
ST. LOUIS, MO (April 26, 2010) – NSI and their Commitment to Community team enlisted the help of all NSI employees to provide funds, goods and services to earthquake survivors and relief organizations in Haiti. Through cookie sales, a t-shirt drive and a shoe drive, employees have contributed funds, over 100 t-shirts, several pairs of shoes and dozens of bags of medical and hygienic supplies.
In February, NSI held a cookie sale and sold Helping Hearts Cookies, baked by the homeless of St. Patrick Center. These heart-shaped cookies were sold for $2 each. All proceeds benefit Sacre Coeur Hospital in Milot, Haiti.
A T-Shirt Drive was also launched, and collection bins overflowed with gently used t-shirts, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, and personal hygiene products. These supplies were given to the volunteer organization Amer-Haitian Bon Zami, Inc (AHBZ), which provides for orphaned and abandoned children in Haiti. “The people of NSI really came through,” said Trish Munsell, NSI Assistant Director of Business Development who brought the organization’s needs to the Committee. Visit www.ahbz.org to learn more or find out how you can help.
Between March and April, NSI held a Shoe Drive to turn shoes into water. NSI employees collected shoes, all styles and conditions, to donate to The Shoeman Projects. The shoes will be sold locally or shipped to a used shoe market in South America. There people whom cannot afford new shoes can purchase or barter for a pair of used shoes. The proceeds of the shoe sales go towards buying a drilling rig and towing vehicle to drill wells in Haiti for clean drinking water. More information on this project can be found at www.shoeman.org.
NSI and the Commitment to Community committee have always supported disaster relief efforts. Previous years’ efforts helped the victims of 9-11, the tsunami in Indonesia, and Hurricane Katrina.
